Description

Travelling is deadly...for prejudices!

Mark Twain's saying is particularly apt for Romania, a country with friendly people, huge potential, but far too little known and burdened with far too many prejudices.

We invite you to join us in discovering the seemingly endless primeval forests of the Carpathians, the well-maintained pass roads, the mysterious monasteries, medieval fortified churches, picturesque villages and towns in eight days on a motorbike. Count Dracula, bears, wolves, quaint fairytale villages and breathtaking landscapes, hospitable people and delicious food. In a word: Carpathian country!

This tour is especially suitable for frequent riderswho want to experience a lot in a short time. Sightseeing and cultural stops are limited here, the driving experience is clearly in the foreground and some days are a little longer. For those who want more sightseeing and shorter days, we recommend our Romania tours.  The Southern Carpathians and Romania XXL to the heart!

Tour dates:
From Vienna approx. 2,900 km, medium-high difficulty, including motorway stages, city passages and village roads with possible deficiencies, or generally roads of different quality levels, partly also with potholes, short sections without asphalt possible. Mountain crossings with numerous bends and hairpin bends.

Our exclusive travel programme

Day 1: Vienna - Satu Mare

570 km

Meet at the starting point near Vienna. After getting to know each other briefly, you will set off directly, mainly on the motorway through the Hungarian Pusta until you reach the town of Satu Mare shortly after the Romanian border. At dinner you can enjoy typical Romanian food for the first time, local beer and homemade schnapps are of course not to be missed! First overnight stay in Romania in the Satu Mare area.

TIP: There is a hotel at the starting point of the tour. For participants travelling further to Vienna, we recommend arriving the day before and spending the night there. We also recommend this extra night for participants with one of our hire motorbikes! And if you want to arrive by car and motorbike trailer at the start of the tour, you can park your car at the hotel during the tour (surcharge).

Day 2: Satu Mare - Moldovita

320 km

You will spend the first part of the day in the historic province of Maramures. It is famous for its wood culture and well-kept traditions. After a visit to the "Happy Cemetery", you will cross the Carpathians for the first time. The newly built pass road takes you up to 1,500 m above sea level. You will reach Bukovina, the home of the Moldavian monasteries, via great hairpin bends. Overnight stay in the Moldovita area.

Day 3: Moldovita - Crit

350 km

One of the most unknown pass roads of the Carpathians awaits you. An old pilgrimage route that has only recently been upgraded, one of the most beautiful motorbike routes of the trip! From the land of monasteries and pilgrimage routes, we continue over the Borgo Pass, where Count Dracula is waiting for you, as the plot of Bram Stoker's novel takes place in this village. You will find out on the spot to what extent the legend is true... Afterwards, the route leads through the Hungarian-influenced Szeklerland to Transylvania. Overnight stay in the Crit/Deutschkreuz area.

Day 4: Crit - Bran

250 km

Your journey continues south through the hilly landscape of Transylvania. Two very beautiful mountain roads lie ahead of you. On the way you will have the opportunity to visit an interesting fortified church, where the village community used to be able to save itself from Turkish invasions. In the afternoon you will reach Bran / Brasburg and have time to visit the "Dracula Castle". Overnight stay in the Bran / Brasov/Kronstadt area.

Day 5: Bran - Sibiu

270 km

A day of several highlights awaits you: First you drive over the Bran Pass and reach Curtea de Arges. Here you start the ascent to Romania's most famous road: the Transfagarasan. Exciting hairpin bends, breathtaking scenery and wild nature. And with a bit of luck, you might even meet one of the bears that live there. You will spend the night in the geographical centre of Romania, in the Transylvanian city of Sibiu, better known as Hermannstadt. You'll see: a great city, especially famous for its impressive old town in old German architecture.

Day 6: Sibiu - Eselnita

330 km

Today's route takes you along Romania's highest mountain road, the Transalpina, with countless bends up to around 2,300 m above sea level. You will pass many small villages that are only inhabited by shepherds and forest workers during the summer. Later in the afternoon you will reach the Iron Gates of the Danube and the point where the Carpathians meet the Danube. Your accommodation is right on the Danube, with a fairytale view of the Serbian shore on the other side. Fish lovers can enjoy fresh Danube zander or Danube catfish. Overnight stay in the Iron Gates / Eselnita area.

Day 7: Eselnita - Timisoara

310 km

In the morning, the route follows the Danube into Banat. The landscape is particularly exciting, as you drive through mountains and along the Danube at the same time. There are photo opportunities at all times - including the remains of the Turkish fortress on the Serbian bank of the Danube. In the afternoon, you reach Timisoara/Temeschwar, the city that was conquered and rebuilt by the Austrian Prince Eugene. Timisoara is also famous as the place where the Romanian revolution broke out in 1989, leading to the fall of the Ceausescu regime. Overnight stay in Timisoara.

Day 8: Timisoara - Vienna

500 km

Unfortunately, it's time to say goodbye to your new Romanian friends. With many wonderful memories in your luggage, you will be on your way home. Your motorbike guide will accompany you until you reach the Romanian-Hungarian border. The rest of the way you will either ride on your own or together with other participants in the group. End of the tour.

A frank word among bikers

On guided motorbike tours with your own motorbike, riders and passengers from different countries of origin and with different motorbikes meet for a joint trip. As different as the participants are, as different will usually be the motorbikes, which makes for a fun and interesting trip. As with all group activities, a certain team spirit and adaptation of the individual to the group is necessary on these trips so that everyone can enjoy the trip and their motorbike holiday.
