Description

For many motorcyclists, the Balkans represent a hitherto unexplored mystery. Wild and pristine, an unpolished natural jewel. And again and again one asks oneself: Is this even possible with my road bike?

Yes it works! And it is sensational! Incredible roads, breathtaking panoramas and open friendly people.

The tour takes us from Austria via Slovenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro to Albania. We return via Montenegro and the unique coastal road of Croatia back to Austria. What we experience here is fantastic: whether the cultural diversity of Sarajevo, the medieval city of Mostar, the largest gorge in Europe or the unbelievably majestic landscape along some stretches, the Balkans hold treasures to be discovered!

This tour combines the right amount of culture with motorbike routes that are second to none. Some mountain roads wind around the mountains like masterfully woven gift ribbons and offer a landscape of curves that will make every motorcyclist's heart beat faster. The stages are balanced and varied. They lead through towns and villages, through mountains and gorges, over passes, along rivers, lakes and the coast.

This tour is especially suitable for frequent riderswho want to experience a lot in a short time. Sightseeing and cultural stops are limited here, the driving experience is clearly in the foreground and some days are a little longer. For those who want more sightseeing and somewhat shorter days, we suggest our Balkans XXL Tour (15 days, escort vehicle, rest day at the sea) to the heart!

Tour dates:
From Graz area approx. 2,800 km, medium to high difficulty, short unpaved sections or sections without asphalt possible, with mountain passes incl. serpentines, city trips and motorway stages.

Our exclusive travel programme

Day 1: Graz (AUT) - Slovenia - Croatia - Banja Luka (BiH)

380 km

Meet at the agreed starting point near Graz. After getting to know each other briefly, we start our journey together. Mainly on the motorway, we travel directly to Bosnia & Herzegovina to the capital of the constituent republic of Srbska, Banja Luka. Our hotel is in the centre of town. After arrival we take a leisurely stroll through the old town. Overnight stay in Banja Luka (BiH).

TIP: There is a hotel at the starting point of the tour. For participants who have a further journey to Graz, it is advisable to arrive the day before and spend the night there. And those who want to come to the start of the tour with a car and motorbike trailer can park the car at the hotel during the tour.

Day 2: Banja Luka (BiH) - Sarajevo (BiH)

270 km

Following the course of the river Vrbas southwards, we leave Banja Luka. On the way we visit picturesque water mills and an old railway bridge until we arrive in the capital of Bosnia in the afternoon: Sarajevo. During a German-speaking guided walk through the historic old town we will learn about the history and culture of this very special and impressive city. Overnight stay in Sarajevo (BiH).

Day 3: Sarajevo (BiH) - Mokra Gora (SRB)

290 km

The bridge of Visegrad, UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the cultural highlight of the day. The route there along picturesque gorges is in no way inferior until we finally reach the border to Serbia. The communist past is still visible and tangible in some places. The mix with modern development is what gives Serbia its special flair. Overnight stay in Mokra Gora (SRB).

Day 4: Mokra Gora (SRB) - Bosnia & Herzegovina - Kolasin (MNE)

290 km

We leave Serbia very early and head for Montenegro: Shortly after Mokra Gora we cross the border back into Bosnia & Herzegovina. Around noon we finally reach the Montenegrin border. Why this country was called Montenegro (Black Mountain) is impressively demonstrated to us here. The Dumitor National Park (it goes up to 1,900 m above sea level) and the deepest gorge in Europe will inspire us. In the early evening we check into our hotel in Kolasin. Overnight stay in Kolasin (MNE).

Day 5: Kolasin (MNE) - Shkodra (ALB)

250 km

With Albania, we reach the southernmost country of this tour. Before that, however, we enjoy the winding mountain roads in south-eastern Montenegro until we arrive in Shkodra in the afternoon. During a guided city walk in German we learn a lot about the city and Albania, which is so foreign to us. Overnight stay in Shkodra (ALB).

Day 6: Shkodra (ALB) - Kotor (MNE) - Dubrovnik (CRO)

310 km

Today we start early, because there is a lot to see and two national borders to cross. Shortly after Shkodra we come to the border with Montenegro and soon reach the world-famous Adriatic coastal road "Jadranska Magistrala" for the first time. After a short detour into the Montenegrin hinterland, we experience the famous Bay of Kotor (MNE) and later cross the border into Croatia. In the evening there is still time for a short walk in Dubrovnik.
Overnight stay in the Dubrovnik area (CRO).

Day 7: Dubrovnik (CRO) - Mostar (BiH) - Makarska (CRO)

300 km

The day begins with leisurely cruising on the Croatian coastal road until we re-enter Bosnia & Herzegovina at Neum (BiH). Along narrow country roads we drive to the world-famous city of Mostar (BiH) and visit the "Old Bridge" Stari Most, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After this cultural highlight we return to Croatia and drive along the coastal road to the Makarska Riviera. Overnight stay on the Makarska Riviera (CRO).

Day 8: Makarska (CRO) -Crikvenica (CRO)

360 km

In order to really enjoy the most beautiful part of the Jadranska Magistrala, we bridge the stretch around the densely populated areas of Split and Sibenik on the motorway. North of Zadar we leave the motorway and then have about 150 km of "cruising along the coastal road" at its best and with breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea ahead of us. In the late afternoon we reach the last hotel of our exciting Balkan round trip and can celebrate the end in convivial company. Overnight stay in the Crikvenica area (CRO).

Day 9: Crikvenica (CRO) - journey home

360 km

Unfortunately, it is time to say goodbye today. Your guide will accompany you to the Croatian-Slovenian border at Rupa, from where you will travel home with many wonderful memories in your luggage, either independently or with other participants in the group. Your guide will be happy to help you find a great route home. End of the tour.

TIP: Additional nights in Graz and/or Croatia are possible on request! Please contact us for an offer!

A frank word among bikers

On guided motorbike tours with your own motorbike, riders and passengers from different countries of origin and with different motorbikes meet for a joint trip. As different as the participants are, as different will usually be the motorbikes, which makes for a fun and interesting trip. As with all group activities, a certain team spirit and adaptation of the individual to the group is necessary on these trips so that everyone can enjoy the trip and their motorbike holiday.
