Description

The start of the Croatia Bike Cruise, the "Croatia cruise on 2 wheels", is the seaside resort of Opatija on the northern Croatian Adriatic coast. We ride our motorbikes directly into the harbour of Opatija and park there in front of our "floating hotel", which will be our home for the next week. We have our dinner on the ship and enjoy the sea air and our first night on board.

Our guided tour of Croatia begins the very next morning:

After breakfast we say goodbye to the captain and crew, get on our bikes and ride together along the coast towards the south. While we make a small detour into the mountains near the coast, our ship is already on its way by sea to the next meeting point.

At noon we will have a relaxing break with the possibility to eat something and taste the specialities of the "experienced region".

We then take the ferry to the island of Rab, where our ship is already waiting for us when we arrive at the harbour of the island's capital of the same name. We park the motorbikes directly in the harbour and retire contentedly to "our rooms" to freshen up for the evening. After dinner, which the ship's cook has prepared for us, we can explore the small harbour and the old town, have a cosy drink and look forward to the next day: the route takes us to Dalmatia, to the city of Zadar.

And so we ride a beautiful, carefully selected route every day on mostly excellent road surfaces between coastal road, hinterland and island roads and spend the night every evening in a different harbour, but always in our own cabin. There is no need to pack our suitcases for the whole week and we can enjoy the beautiful tours through unbelievably impressive and constantly changing landscapes without travel luggage on our bikes.

The daily stages range from 110 km to a maximum of 240 km. The total mileage during the tour is about 1,100 km.

Experienced top tour guides lead the tour and show us some of the most beautiful and exciting roads in Croatia. And they also make sure that no one gets lost: for safety's sake, there is also a support vehicle ready to take a broken-down bike to the next port.

Secluded beaches and coves, picturesque coastal and mountain roads, idyllic villages and impressive medieval towns - it's all waiting for YOU!

Our floating home is a Premium category motor sailer cruise ship of approx. 35 m in length. It has 18 fully air-conditioned guest cabins, either with double bed or two separate single beds. All cabins are of course en-suite, regardless of whether they are on the main deck or the lower deck.

Cabins "on deck" are cabins on the main deck (the deck where you enter the ship), cabins "below deck" are cabins in the hull of the ship. All cabins are outside cabins. The advantage of deck cabins is that you have direct access from the main deck and more fresh air, while below deck cabins are often quieter. Cabins below deck usually have portholes.

Breakfast and dinner are taken in the "dining room", which with its bar is also available as a lounge for socialising in the evenings.

The country we are visiting has many special features to offer us: Croatia is not a large country, but it is Mediterranean and Central European, mountainous and flat, maritime and continental at the same time. In a relatively small area, one finds landscapes here that one would otherwise have to search for in far-flung regions of Europe and the world: Thus, in Croatia we find a forested, indented coastline with a multitude of islands, well-preserved old Mediterranean towns with narrow streets and stone houses, but also green pastureland on the coast with dry stone walls. The mountainous regions are adorned with extensive woodlands, romantic lakes and picturesque villages like in the Alps, but also rough, bare limestone cliffs with deep gorges, the hill country is crowned by vineyards, medieval castles and fortresses. And we will see some of it......!

Croatia Bike Cruise - You have the luxury of a great cruise ship and the experiences of a motorbike tour. All this without having to pack your suitcase every day - your "hotel" is travelling with you!

Our exclusive travel programme

Saturday: The day of arrival Independent journey to Opatija

Already during the Danube Monarchy, the "Curort Abbazia" was one of the fashionable seaside resorts on the Adriatic and still inspires today due to its beautiful parks and houses in Art Nouveau style. If you want to come by car and motorbike trailer: no problem! We can reserve guarded parking spaces near the harbour. Embarkation takes place in the early afternoon, the rest of the afternoon can be used for an exploratory trip or just a short walk into the nearby centre of Opatija. First dinner together and first night on board.

Sunday: Opatija - Rab

200 km

We leave our ship and the pleasant town of Opatija and drive past Rijeka along the Croatian coastal road "Jadranska Magistrala" towards the south. Near Senj we make a first detour into the Croatian hinterland and the Velebit Nature Park. Here we are surprised for the first time how the landscape changes so much within a few kilometres. We also look forward to the first great stretch of curves in the mountains with many, many curves and some hairpin bends until we reach the Magistrala again. Then we take the car ferry across the Velebit Channel to Rab. Overnight stay in Rab.

Monday: Rab - Zadar

190 km

We take the car ferry back to the mainland and follow the coastal road to Karlobag, where we make our second detour into the hinterland and over the mountains. On a well-built overland road we cruise up to almost 950 m above sea level (we start at 0 m!), which is already the first highlight of the day! On this day tour we cross the Velebit Nature Park towards the north and are amazed by the change of landscape as soon as we are through the mountains. On the way back, there are again some bends ahead of us as we head towards our destination for today: Zadar is situated on a narrow tongue of land on the Adriatic Sea and the Zadar Channel and is separated from the mainland by a moat. The harbour is directly adjacent to the culturally and historically important old town.

Tuesday: Zadar - Pag-Mandre

110 km

Today we make it a very comfortable and quiet day to rest. After a short detour to the island of Vir, we pass the bridge from the mainland to the island of Pag and cross half the island to our port for the night: Mandre.
We board our boat for a lovely afternoon excursion along the coast of Pag, enjoying the flair and air of the Adriatic coast. If you like, you can take out your swimsuit and swim around the boat!

Wednesday: Pag - Krk

240 km

Freshly rested, we set off on the longest leg of the journey: We pass the bridge from Pag back to the mainland and then follow the entire Magistrala from the southern end of the Velebit Canal up to the bridge that connects the island of Krk with the mainland. Just under 150 km of curve party along one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world! We will remember this day for a long time. After crossing the Krk bridge, we drive directly to the port of the town that bears the same name as the island: Krk.

Thursday: Krk - Cres - Rabac                                                                                180 km

Ever done island hopping by motorbike? Today we are going to ride on 3 islands! From Krk (1) we take the car ferry to Cres (2), the longest of the islands in the Kvarner Bay. And at noon we stop for a break in a small fishing village on the island of Losinj (3). Then we drive back to Cres and take another car ferry to Istria, the big peninsula in the west of Croatia. Overnight stay in the port of Rabac.

Friday: Rabac - Opatija

140 km

We saved one of the biggest highlights for the last day: Those who like medieval castles and towns will get their money's worth today! We move away from the coast again and drive directly into the centre of the Istrian hinterland, to the capital of Istria County, Pazin. After a stop with a view of the Mitterburg Castle, first mentioned in the 10th century, our route takes us on to the truffle stronghold of Istria, the town of Buzet. The old town of Buzet is situated on the top of a hill and is home to one of the most famous truffle restaurants in Istria. If you like, you can indulge in truffles for lunch here. The highlight (in the truest sense of the word) is the crossing of the Učka Mountains, to which Opatija owes its evening freshness due to the fall winds from the lushly forested slopes. Via narrow serpentines we return to the Opatija Riviera, which we follow for the last few kilometres to our starting point, the port of Opatija. Last night together in Opatija.

Saturday: Disembarkation Farewell and departure

Unfortunately, our extraordinary journey comes to an end today. After breakfast we leave the ship and head home with many new memories and new friends. Additional nights in Opatija are possible on request!
The route for the motorbike tour and also the ship's route are expressly subject to change, especially for weather-related reasons! In addition, the captain of the ship reserves the right to change the route in case of bad weather conditions.

A frank word among bikers

Our trip is not a driving course, but a challenging and varied motorbike tour. On guided motorbike tours with your own motorbike, riders and passengers from different countries of origin and with different motorbikes meet for a joint trip. As different as the participants are, as different will usually be the motorbikes, which makes for a fun and interesting trip.
As with all group activities, a certain team spirit and a certain adaptation of the individual to the group is necessary for these tours. If you let yourself go, you will certainly "experience" a great tour, meet new friends and have a lot of fun, because the shared experience of driving dynamics and the magic of curves in a charming landscape unites people. And on this trip, the focus is on motorcycling in the unique and sensational landscape.
