Description
5,200 km in 20 days across Scandinavia.
The North Cape is probably the most exciting destination for every biker in Europe. On the way there and back, you will experience a wonderful variety and lots of highlights in the four Nordic countries Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. Particularly worthy of mention are the Dalarna region, a cultural tradition in Sweden, and Lapland, which stretches across three countries. Here you will inevitably come into contact with the indigenous people, the Sami. Around the summer solstice, the midnight sun also awaits you. Along the Norwegian coasts you will experience the Lofoten Islands and many, many (really many) fjords. The last highlight is the ferry trip incl. overnight stay from Bergen to Hirtshals.
Our exclusive travel programme
Day 1: Arrival Hirtshals (Denmark)
Own travel to Hirtshals. Parking for car and motorbike trailer (extra charge).
Day 2: Hirtshals - Oslo
170 km
Early breakfast and drive to the port of Hirtshals (approx. 2 km), the most important ferry port on the North Sea coast. At 9am the ferry leaves Denmark for Langesund on the Oslofjord (journey time approx. 4.5 h). After arrival, a good 2 hours on the bike await you on the way to the hotel in Oslo. If you feel like a sightseeing tour, the bus takes just 15 minutes to the city centre.
Day 3: Oslo - Mora
340 km
Your journey to Mora begins with a drive through Oslo. The following region is rich in forested sections and leads over small and partly winding roads into Sweden in the province of Dalarna. The first stop in Sweden is Mora, the largest town on Lake Siljan and the centre of northern Dalarna. The famous handicraft of the red Dalarna wooden horses also originates here. To the west of Lake Siljan, you encounter an extensive marshland before the hills rise into mountains.
Day 4: Mora - Östersund
310 km
Östersund is situated on Sweden's fifth largest lake, Storsjön. The city centre is located on the island of Frösön and is a good place to visit the Jamtli open-air museum or the Frösö church with its distinctive wooden bell tower.
Day 5: Östersund - Skellefteå
495 km
Skellefteå is a small, cosy town near the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia. It is home to Scandinavia's oldest wooden bridge still in use. Built with wide streets and many trees, it is also called the "City of Birches". Built in 1845, Skellefteå is one of Sweden's youngest cities.
Day 6: Skellefteå - Rovaniemi
375 km
In Haparanda/Tornio you cross the Finnish border at the Torne River. Rovaniemi is the capital of Finnish Lapland. You can admire a very successful Arctic museum, a beautiful Orthodox church and the "world-famous Father Christmas village" either today or tomorrow on the way to Inari. You will spend the night in Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle.
Day 7: Rovaniemi - Inari
325 km
Lapland's vast landscape with wide moors, forests and lakes is impressive. Extensive national parks are located here. The Sami part of Lapland begins behind the small town of Sodankylä. Beware: reindeer may meet you on the road here! Ivalo is the centre of the region around Lake Inari. Your destination is the town of Inari further to the northwest. The Siida Museum and Event Centre in Inari is a good place to start learning about and understanding Sami life.
Day 8: Inari - Honningsvåg
370 km
You will notice that Lapland is very sparsely populated when you drive the route to Karasjok in Norway. Here you will encounter the mighty Tana River valley. The Norwegian Sami have their modern parliament here, which is also open to the public. In Lakselv, on the wide Porsangerfjord, you will see the North Sea for the first time. On the west shore you will pass the national park in Stabbursdalen. Your destination and overnight stop for 2 nights is Honningsvåg, directly in front of North Cape.
Day 9: North Cape and surroundings 75 km
The 30 km or so to the North Cape Rock can be done quickly. North Cape has been a popular tourist destination for about 200 years. The so-called North Cape Hall, an adventure centre, is carved into the rock above the North Sea. A second destination is Skarvågim: about 60 people live in what is said to be the world's northernmost fishing village. The rugged North Sea nature is very impressive.
Day 10: Honningsvåg - Sørkjosen
370 km
You are moving south again. The route leads over the mountains from Sennalandet to Alta. The field with rock drawings from prehistoric times is fascinating. The next mountain passage offers a wonderful view of the fjord and the Øksfjord glacier. Sørkjosen is the destination for the day.
Day 11: Sørkjosen - Harstad
310 km
Day 12: Harstad - Solvaer
170 km
A visit to Lofoten is on the agenda, this island kingdom lets you experience another facet of the northern landscape. Today you will have plenty of time to explore the largest town in Lofoten and its surroundings. Overnight in Svolvær, Lofoten.
Day 13: Solvaer - Fauske
230 - 280 km
We have planned 2 routes for the trip to Fauske: The shorter option is to take the ferry directly from Svolvær to Skutvik (journey time approx. 1 h 55 min) and spend more time on the mainland, the longer option is to enjoy a further 130 km on the Lofoten Islands in a southerly direction and take the ferry from Moskenes to Bodø (ferry journey time approx. 3 h 30 min, booking in advance is essential, we are happy to help, price approx. € 120 per driver).
Day 14: Fauske - Brønnøysund
370 - 460 km
You cross the Arctic Circle to the south and can again choose between two routes: Either the more leisurely variant, partly through the hinterland with 2 ferries, 370 km and approx. 6.5 h driving time or the adventurous and more eventful variant along the coast with many fjords and five (5!) ferry trips (not included in the price) with 460 km and approx. 8 h total travelling time.
Day 15: Brønnøysund - Trondheim
375 km
Along many fjords (and the ferry Vennesund - Holm, 20 min) we go to the old capital: Trondheim. A walk to the magnificent cathedral through the alleys of the over 1,000-year-old city is almost a must and an experience.
Day 16: Trondheim - Molde
280 km
The west of Norway is rugged with many fjords, and after the ferry crossing Halsa - Kanestraum (approx. 20 min), a special treat of a road awaits with the Atlantic Road. Molde is located on the north side of the wide Romsdalsfjord.
Day 17: Molde - Geiranger - Førde
335 km
This stage is a real challenge. You cross several fjords and drive through breathtaking nature. The highlights: Trollstigen with the 320 m high waterfall Stigfossen and the famous serpentines at Geiranger Fjord. The 1-hour ferry crossing from Geiranger to Hellesylt (included in the price) is particularly impressive: vertical mountain cliffs, unique waterfalls, UNESCO World Heritage Site. A really great experience! Other ferry crossings: Sølsnes - Åfarnes, 15 minutes; Linge - Eidsdal, 10 minutes.
Day 18: Førde - Bergen
175 km
The last day in Norway takes you to the old Hanseatic city of Bergen, where you can buy last-minute souvenirs in the Hanseatic quarter of Bryggen and take a leisurely stroll through the fish market before returning to Hirtshals the next day. The journey ends with a last ferry crossing: Lavik - Oppedal, approx. 20 min. overnight stay in Bergen.
Day 19: Bergen - Hirtshals
Today, embarkation with Fjord Line for the journey to Denmark is on the programme. The ship sails south through Sunde and past many islands along the beautiful southern Norwegian coast. After a short mooring at Stavanger, we will return to Denmark via the North Sea. Overnight stay on the ferry. (Departure from Bergen around noon).
Day 20: Journey home
Arrival in Hirtshals, Denmark, will be around 7:30 a.m. After disembarkation you will start your journey home. End of the trip.
