Description

For many motorcyclists, the Balkans represent a hitherto unexplored mystery. Wild and pristine, an unpolished natural jewel. And again and again one asks oneself: Is this even possible with my road bike? Yes it is! And it is sensational!

Incredible roads, breathtaking panoramas and open friendly people. The tour takes us from Austria via Slovenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro to Albania and Macedonia. We return via Montenegro and the unique coastal road of Croatia back to Austria. What we experience here is fantastic: Whether the cultural diversity of Sarajevo, the medieval city of Mostar, the largest gorge in Europe or the unbelievably majestic landscape along some stretches, the Balkans hold treasures to be discovered! This tour combines the right amount of culture with motorbike routes that are second to none. Some mountain roads wind around the mountains like masterfully woven gift ribbons and offer a landscape of curves that will make every motorcyclist's heart beat faster. The stages are balanced and varied. They lead through towns and villages, through mountains and gorges, over passes, along rivers, lakes and the coast.

Tour dates:
From the Graz area approx. 3,500 km, medium difficulty, short unpaved sections or sections without asphalt possible, with mountain passes incl. serpentines, city trips and motorway stages.

Our exclusive travel programme

Day 1 - Saturday: Graz (AUT) - Slovenia - Croatia - Banja Luka (BiH)

380 km

Meeting at the agreed starting point near Graz. Once all the luggage has been stowed in the support vehicle, we set off on our journey together. Mainly on the motorway, we head straight to the capital of the Republic of Srbska, Banja Luka, in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Our hotel is right in the centre. On arrival, we take a leisurely stroll through the old town centre. Overnight stay in Banja Luka (BiH).

TIP for travelling: There is a hotel at the starting point of the tour. For participants travelling further to Graz, we recommend arriving the day before and spending the night there. We also recommend this extra night for participants with one of our hire motorbikes! And if you want to come to the start of the tour with your car and motorbike trailer, you can park your car at the hotel during the tour.

TIP for luggage: If you don't want to leave your luggage at the
If you can or want to bring your motorbike to the starting point, you can have it collected from your home using our luggage service. We will then bring it to the start of the tour in the support vehicle!

Day 2 - Sunday: Banja Luka (BiH) - Sarajevo (BiH)

270 km

Following the course of the river Vrbas southwards, we leave Banja Luka. On the way we visit picturesque water mills, a unique waterfall and an old railway bridge. In the afternoon we arrive in the capital of Bosnia: Sarajevo. During a German-speaking guided walk through the historic city centre, we will learn about the history and culture of this extraordinary and impressive city.
Overnight stay in Sarajevo (BiH).

Day 3 - Monday: Sarajevo (BiH) - Mokra Gora (SRB)

290 km

The Visegrad Bridge, UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the cultural highlight of the day. The route there along picturesque gorges is a more than worthy preparation until we finally reach the border to Serbia. The communist past is still visible and tangible in some places. The mix with modern development is what gives Serbia its special flair. Overnight stay in Mokra Gora (SRB).

Day 4 - Tuesday: Mokra Gora (SRB) - Bosnia & Herzegovina - Zabljak (MNE)

215 km

We leave Serbia again and head for Montenegro: Shortly after Mokra Gora we cross the border back into Bosnia & Herzegovina. Around noon we finally reach the Montenegrin border. Why this country was named Montenegro (Black Mountain) is impressively demonstrated to us here. After driving through the breathtaking Dumitor National Park (up to 1,900 m above sea level) we reach our overnight destination, the highest town in Montenegro. Overnight stay in Zabljak (MNE).

Day 5 - Wednesday: Zabljak (MNE) -Kolasin (MNE)

100 km

With the Tara Gorge, the deepest gorge in Europe (and second deepest in the world) is on the programme. And a half day of rest. We leave the hotel a little later and enjoy a leisurely day until we reach our hotel in the ski and health resort of Kolasin in the early afternoon. In the wellness area of the hotel we can enjoy the rest of the day.

Day 6 - Thursday: Kolasin (MNE) - Shkodra (ALB)

250 km

We once again enjoy the winding mountain roads in south-eastern Montenegro before we reach the Albanian border and visit the next country on the tour. The condition of the roads, and also the friendliness of the Albanians, will surprise us. During a German-speaking guided city walk we learn a lot about the city and Albania, which is so foreign to us. Overnight stay in Shkodra (ALB).

Day 7 - Friday: Shkodra (ALB) - Ohrid (MAK)

320 km

Well rested, we can start a little earlier, because there is a lot to see: With Macedonia (also: Macedonia) we reach the southernmost country of the Balkan XXL Tour. But before we reach the Macedonian border, we dive deep into the Albanian hinterland. The tour takes us high into the Albanian mountains on roads of varying quality (but all of them can be ridden by road motorbikes without any problems). Many curves and a high adventure factor guarantee an extremely exciting day! The equally winding ride along the reservoir near the Macedonian town of Debar finally leads us towards Lake Ohrid. Overnight stay in Ohrid (MAK).

Day 8 - Saturday: Ohrid (MAK) - Tirana (ALB)

170 km

In the morning we have the opportunity for a short walk along the shore of Lake Ohrid, then we set off again for Albania. We reach the capital of Albania in the late afternoon via well-maintained, picturesquely situated roads. Our hotel is located directly in the centre of the city. During a guided city walk in German we learn more about the eventful history of Tirana. Overnight stay in Tirana (ALB).

Day 9 - Sunday: Tirana (ALB) - Budva (MNE)

200 km

We end our visit in Albania and return to Montenegro. This time, however, not in the mountainous part: Shortly after passing Shkodra, we reach the border and then, for the first time on the tour, the world-famous Adriatic coastal road "Jadranksa Magistrala", which we drive northwards. Now we have earned a rest day: Two nights follow in a hotel by the sea in the Budva area (MNE).

Day 10 - Monday: Budva (MNE)

0 km

Day at leisure. We enjoy the amenities of our hotel by the sea and let ourselves go. If you can't get enough of driving, you can make an excursion into the nearby mountains on your own. Overnight stay in the Budva area (MNE).

Day 11 - Tuesday: Budva (MNE) - Dubrovnik (CRO)

210 km

After the rest day, we set off again a little earlier, as there is a lot on the programme: first we make a short detour into the Montenegrin hinterland, then we "experience" the famous Bay of Kotor and later cross the border into Croatia.
Overnight stay in the Dubrovnik area (CRO).

Day 12 - Wednesday: Dubrovnik (CRO) - Neum (BiH)

70 km

We use the morning for an extensive tour of the impressive city of Dubrovnik. In the afternoon we enjoy the coastal road again until we enter Bosnia & Herzegovina again at Neum (BiH). Overnight stay in Neum (BiH).

Day 13 - Thursday: Neum (BiH) - Mostar (BiH) - Makarska Riviera

230 km

The route takes us along narrow country roads to the world-famous city of Mostar (BiH). Once there, we visit the "Stari Most", which means "Old Bridge" and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After this cultural highlight, we return to Croatia. We drive along the coastal road to our overnight stay on the Makarska Riviera. (CRO).

Day 14 - Friday: Makarska (CRO) - Crkvenica (CRO)

360 km

In order to enjoy the most beautiful part of the Jadranska Magistrala, we bridge the distance around the densely populated areas of Split and Sibenik on the motorway. North of Zadar we leave the motorway and then have about 150 km of "cruising along the coastal road" at its best and with breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea ahead of us. In the late afternoon we reach the last hotel of our exciting Balkan round trip and can celebrate the end in convivial company. Overnight stay in the Crkvenica area (CRO).

Day 15 - Saturday: Crkvenica (CRO) - Slovenia - Graz (AUT)

360 km

Unfortunately, it is time to say goodbye today. With many wonderful memories in our luggage, we are on our way home. Your guide will take you mostly on the motorway to the start of the tour near Graz.
End of the tour.

TIP Journey home:
For those for whom the route to Graz would be a diversion on the way home, they can already say goodbye to the other tour participants on departure from the hotel and make their way home independently. If there is not enough room for your luggage on the motorbike, we can send it home using our luggage service.

Additional nights in Graz and/or Croatia are possible on request! Please contact us here for an offer!

A frank word among bikers

On guided motorbike tours with your own motorbike, riders and passengers from different countries of origin and with different motorbikes meet for a joint trip. As different as the participants are, as different will usually be the motorbikes, which makes for a fun and interesting trip. As with all group activities, a certain team spirit and adaptation of the individual to the group is necessary on these trips so that everyone can enjoy the trip and their motorbike holiday.
