Description

When the low sun shimmers on the coniferous forests of the Durmitor Mountains, the silhouettes stand out darkly against the bright sky. This is where the name of this country comes from. Montenegro comes from the Slavic language and means "black mountain" or "black forest". But Montenegro is also a country on the Adriatic Sea with heroes and pirates who raided Venetian ships in the Middle Ages.

The coastline is 300 km long and 70 km of sandy and pebble beaches offer a phenomenal swimming experience in crystal clear waters. On the other side, raging rivers wind through forested mountainous country, criss-crossed by canyons and small lakes. Hidden in the highlands lies one of the last primeval forests in Europe. In addition, historic monasteries and farms, a Mediterranean climate, untouched nature, winding mountain roads and the hospitality of the people make Monenegro a unique secret tip that we want to explore by motorbike.

Tour dates:
From Graz area approx. 2,500 km, medium to high difficulty. Short unpaved sections or sections without asphalt possible, but not planned. With mountain passes incl. serpentines, city trips and motorway stages. Not suitable for beginners or riders with little alpine experience.

Our exclusive travel programme

Day 1: Graz (AUT) - Zenica (BiH)

540 km

Meeting at the agreed starting point near Graz. After getting to know each other briefly, we set off straight away. To get you closer to your destination of Montenegro faster, you take the motorway for the most part. During a cosy dinner in the Bosnian hinterland, you can enjoy the specialities of "Balkan cuisine" for the first time. Overnight stay in Zenica (BiH).

TIP: There is a hotel at the starting point of the tour. For participants who have a further journey to Graz, it is advisable to arrive the day before and spend the night there. And those who want to come to the start of the tour with a car and motorbike trailer can park the car at the hotel during the tour.

Day 2: Zenica (BiH) - Zabljak (MNE)

260 km

We continue southwards and finally reach the Montenegrin border. The reason why this country was called Montenegro (Black Mountain) is impressively demonstrated to us here. The drive through the Dumitor National Park (up to 1,900 metres above sea level) is the "highlight" of the day. Overnight stay in Zabljak, the highest town in Montenegro.

Day 3: Zabljak - Kolasin

230 - 270 km

Once again, the roads in the Dumitor National Park will inspire us before we reach Kolasin, the most famous ski resort in the country, in the afternoon. Depending on our mood, we choose from 2 routes. First of two overnight stays in Kolasin.

Day 4: Day trip Tara Gorge

270 km

Today's programme includes the Tara Gorge, the deepest gorge in Europe (and the second deepest in the world); your luggage can stay in the hotel. If you like, you can enjoy the special view of the famous Djurdjevica Bridge from the Zip Line, which is sure to give you a thrill (optional). Second night in Kolasin.

Day 5: Kolasin (MNE) - Becici (MNE)

270 km

We leave mountainous Montenegro and return to the Adriatic Sea. However, before we reach our overnight destination, we enjoy the drive with a view of the largest lake of the Balkan Peninsula, Lake Scutari, and a few "gustos" of the world-famous Adriatic coastal road "Jadranska Magistrala". For the next two nights we stay again in the same hotel, the beach of the seaside resort Becici is one of the most beautiful in Montenegro and in the southern Adriatic region.

Day 6: Day trip Kotor

0 - 100 km

Today is supposed to be a bit more relaxed, after all we have been on the road for a few days. We make an excursion to Kotor and the Lovcen National Park and can enjoy the beach life in the afternoon. Second night in Becici.

Day 7: Becici (MNE) - Neum (BiH)

250 km

Slowly we have to think about the way home. However, we don't say "farewell" to Montenegro, just "goodbye", maybe we'll be back one day! Winding roads take us back to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where we spend the night in Neum (BiH) with a view of the largest bridge in Croatia. Overnight stay in Neum (BiH).

Day 8: Neum (BiH) - Kozarska Dubica (BiH)

380 km

Kozarska Dubica, in the north-west of Bosnia, is the last overnight stop on this extraordinary South-East Europe tour. In the evening, we can toast to the end of the tour in a convivial atmosphere and review the experiences we have had.) Overnight stay in Kozarska Dubica (BiH).

Day 9: Kozarska Dubica (BiH) - Graz (AUT)

310 km

Unfortunately, it's time to say goodbye today. You will be on your way home with many wonderful memories. Your guide will take you to the starting point of the tour near Graz, where the tour ends.

TIP: For those for whom the route to Graz would be a diversion on the way home, they can either say goodbye to the other tour participants on the way or already at the hotel and make their way home independently!
